Abstract
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications have been shown to decrease the synthesis of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid. Because prostaglandin E2 in probably the most important agent in the prcduction of cartilage proteases.responsible for-the chemical synovitis, prostaglandin synthetase inhibitors are most useful in controlling symptoms. The newly developed NSAID injectable and dispersable "Piroxicams" were prescribed in the 22 patients who had early class II rhaumatoid arthritis for the evaluation o: its¢¥ clinical efficacy, and the results were assessed. This drug was prescribed for 7 days in patients who had difficulty of swallow of oral pills and who had adverse effects such as gastrointestinal symptoms, and then this drug was followed by the oral diffusable piroxicam tablet.
Results were as follows:
1. This drug was found very effective and there are no recipients withdrawn from this study because of side effects.
2. Symptoms such as pain and tenderness improved in 71.4% of the cases and pain on motion was alleviated in 62.5% of cases.
3. Joint swelling subsided in all and range of motion improved in all of the cases as well as ability to walk.
4. ESR became normalized and C-reactive protein and RA factor quantitatively were reauced significantly.
Through this study, injectable Piroxicam was found faster to be very effective clinically in subsiding the joint swelling and in alleviating pain, and the churg was well tolerated and effective as much as oral tablet.
